Extrusion ABS

Overview

Polymer processing is mainly divided into two major groups: extrusion and injection molding.  Extrusion ABS is formulated to provide excellent mechanical properties, extrusion stability, vacuum formability and chemical resistance. We are meeting the customer's needs by supplying various Extrusion ABS resins so that the proper materials for refrigerator liners, pipes, bathtubs and suit cases can be selected.

Features

1) Non-Toxicity
As Extrusion ABS resin may contact to many of foodstuffs, water, etc., non-toxicity is one of the most important properties.  Extrusion ABS is non-toxic to use for any kinds of application.

2) Well Balanced Mechanical Properties
The application of Extrusion ABS resin is mainly for parts which need excellent tensile and impact strength.  Extrusion ABS shows not only high tensile strength, high impact strength and high flexural strength, but also good impact strength at low temperature.

3) Excellent Extrusion Stability
One of the major problems of sheet extrusion is the variation of output with time. If the output varies with time, it is very hard to control uniform thickness, gloss and mechanical property. As  Extrusion ABS has wide processing window and special melt flow characteristics, customers not only can extrude sheet uniformly even in the situation of small unwanted condition change but also can easily setup the extruding conditions.

4) Good Vacuum Formability
Recently, the vacuum-formed product including refrigerator liner have been changing to more complicated design. If General ABS which has not excellent extensional viscosity has been used, the thickness distribution is not so even, and excessively thin forming part might occur. Since  Extrusion ABS resin shows excellent extensional viscosity at forming temperature, it has very stable extensional property which means more even wall thickness during forming process. Therefore  Extrusion ABS resin can be vacuum-formed with thin sheets which can reduce the total production cost.

5) Good Chemical Resistance
When Extrusion ABS resin is applied on pipes, refrigerator liner and containers, it should display a high level of resistance to freon, food stuffs and oil.  Extrusion ABS resin has better resistance against above chemicals than General ABS. So if you use cyclo-pentane or CFC-11 as blowing agents on refrigerator,  SV-series can provide better performance without crack. But in case of HCFC141b,  ABS ES-series is more adaptable.

6) Stable Color to Sunlight\
Generally, ABS material is used in indoor equipment, but it is sometimes exposed to sunlight during transportation, stacking in field. So color stability is another requiring property of ABS material.  Extrusion ABS resin has good color stability to sunlight. But as strong ultra violet deteriorates the properties of ABS, customers need to avoid direct exposure to sunlight as much as possible.

7) Recycle is possible
Extrusion ABS is thermally so stable that customers can use recycled resin within 30% by weight per virgin  ABS without significant mechanical properties drop. However, as the number of recycling increases, surface defects such as decoloring might occur.

Properties

1) Mechanical Properties of  ABS Sheet
The grades of  Extrusion are suitable for structural materials because of high impact strength and sheet rigidity there of.

2) Impact Strength-Flexural Modulus Balance
The impact and flexural strength balance is the first check point for structural materials. The  Extrusion ABS grades have excellent flexural and impact strength which compliment both rigid and tough materials.

3) Temperature Dependence of Mechanical Strength
There are two types of product defects: cracks and deformation, which often occur during the manufacturing process as well as in the reliability test. The mechanical strength characteristics of the  Extrusion ABS at various temperature ranges are displayed in the forming process and reliability test. The  Extrusion ABS grades keep a stable impact strength of 10kgcm/cm even at a temperature of -30¡É. With its excellent mechanical strength at various temperatures, the resin's stability is revealed.

4) Recycling Characteristics
Due to the thermal stability of Extrusion ABS, their properties are well sustained after recycling. However, as the number of recycling increases, surface defects such as decoloring might occur.

1) HTPE (High Density Polyethylene)

High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) has various characteristics including high flowability, stiffness, impact resistance, electrical insulation, mouldability, and cold resistance, which makes it excellent for making general housewares, fish net, rope, insulated cable, chemical containers, automobile fuel tank, pipes, films (agricultural, industrial, packaging).

The company developed the catalyst for HDPE polymerization on its own in the early 1990s. Based on this, various products made for floor-heating XLPE pipes, gas pipes, automobile fuel tanks, and more were developed for the first time in Korea and sold to domestic and foreign markets.

The company has been carrying out thorough research to improve quality of all the HDPE products consistently, and is sparing no efforts to product the best HDPE products in the world.

2) LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene)
Low Density Polyethylene is produced with the Autoclave process of ExxonMobil, designed to have various characteristics depending on customers' requirements. In particular, the most up-to-date technology optimized polymerization conditions for each product according to its use with the biggest priority on improving productivity of customers and properties of the products. The whole process operation is automatically controlled, enhancing uniformity of the products

Adjusting the molecular weight dispersion for extrusion coating products for flexible packaging, paper coating, and tapaulin coating reduced neck-in, and low density allows for easy heat sealing and higher adhesiveness to base materials.

Injection products used mainly for lids of various containers and general goods have low density that improved transparency and flexibility. Adjusting molecular weight and its dispersion minimized the flowability and distortion.

3) LLDPE (Linear Low Density Polyethyelne)
Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) is produced from the vapor phase polymerization of UCC, with optimum properties and processability tailored to customers' needs. Exploiting characteristics of the process at the maximum, in particular, leads to high-quality products with excellent mechanical properties with no gel. The whole process operation is automatically controlled, enhancing uniformity of the products. Film type products mostly used for scratch wrap or agricultural film have proper level of molecular weight dispersion, which raised mechanical strength and transparency while minimizing gel. Rotational casting products used for water tanks and toys have low molecular weight and proper level of molecular weight dispersion that improved the heat-resistant stability, processability, mechanical properties and flowability. In addition, injection-moulding products used for various containers and housewares have lower density that improved transparency and flexibility. At the same time, they have proper level of molecular weight and its dispersion, which minimized the flow and distortion.

4) EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate Copolymer)
Ethylene Vinyl Acetate Copolymer is produced from the Autoclave process of ExxonMobil, designed to have various characteristics that meets customers' needs. It is used for hot melt adhesives that were developed in 1998 for the first time in Korea, solid insulation of electric wires instead of PVC, and more. In particular, the most up-to-date technology optimized polymerization conditions for each product according to its use with the biggest priority on improving productivity of customers and properties of the products. The whole process operation is automatically controlled, enhancing uniformity of the products.
